Let’s just start with,”why a mobile home?” Well, honestly it was FREE! Yes, I do know it looks rough but I have confidence that in about a year it will be totally different inside and out. Besides, we went from an $800 a month house payment to lot rent of $170 a month. Huge difference, huh! Also, the electric bill at the house was usually close to $200 and sometimes $300 and once as high as $500, at the mobile home $40. Cha-ching another huge savings. Moving to the mobile home and selling the house has allowed me to meet one of my homesteading goals, to work from home and focus a lot more attention on the homestead without the added frustration of a 9 to 5 job. Now I can build the homestead and write my blog.
I understand that people might say that they can see why we chose to move to the mobile home based on the savings alone, but,” why on a rented lot?” Let me clarify that for you. The mobile home is on a private 2 acre lot with 1 other mobile home and the owner is willing to owner finance the land for us. The lot rent from the other mobile home would go towards our payment, off setting the cost. The mobile homes sit back behind a little wooded area with most of the land in the back and fairly level, great for a large garden and some fruit trees. Even with a decent sized garden we will still have plenty of room for the chicken coop, pig pen, rabbitry and maybe one day even a few goats.
Stay with me and follow along as we build the homestead, remodel the mobile home and create a more self sufficient, healthier way of life.
