The decision to homestead, where to homestead, what the goals are for your homestead, are all very important to creating and succeeding on your homestead.
HI! My name is Tami, I’m a 48 year old mother and grandmother, living in Central NC and I’ve been personally inching my way to becoming a full time homesteader for several years. I’ve learned new skills and made plenty of mistakes. My biggest mistake being not having a plan and taking on too much too soon. A well thought out plan with achievable goals is, in my opinion, the key to a successful homestead. I was so excited when I first decided I wanted to be more self reliant, I jumped right in. I bought books such as; Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving, The Backyard Homestead Guide to Raising Farm Animals and All New Square Foot Gardening II. Each one of these is packed full of useful homesteading information. I spent a ton of money learning to make my own soap, deodorant, shampoo, laundry detergent, dish detergent and many other products. I was baking bread, hanging laundry to dry, composting and so many other things all at once that I quickly became overwhelmed and lost all my enthusiasm.
Now, I’m simplifying, downsizing and slowly starting to rebuild my homestead and am hoping to share with others all my successes and failures. Follow me as I move to a tiny mobile home that was given to me for free but needs a total gut and remodel, try to earn an income from home and become more self reliant.
